WARNING: Reading these gratitudes WILL make you hungry!

Food has much more power than giving us sustenance. Of course we have to have a good relationship with food to be grateful. But when we do - food is tied to moments and memories that we cherish. How does food make you grateful?

I am grateful for a Mom who taught me how to cook. I am grateful for the time I explore cookbooks and online recipes. I enjoy making delicious appetizers, desserts...just about anything. I recently celebrated my daughter's and her husband's birthdays with a birthday brunch....I made a delicious hashbrown casserole and crispy belgium waffles with fresh blackberries/and syrup on top. We had such a great family time, but find gratitude in gathering over such a yummy meal.

It has to be coffee because it reminds me of being with friends. So many funny moments hanging out with friends drinking coffee.

As Thanksgiving approaches, I am incredibly grateful for the bounty that we enjoy - every day! We eat like kings of old, with meat and vegetables and desserts available all the time. And, especially in these challenging economic times, I'm thankful that we are still able to put a wonderful feast on the table. The stuffing is my favorite on Thanksgiving, but I also love delicious lasagne and so many other dishes! What abundance!

I am so thankful that we always have been provided for and have never had to go hungry. We had a wonderful holiday, full of good, delicious foods that we are STILL eating the leftovers from...we have never had to worry where our next meal is coming from and for that I am so thankful.

It is kind of strange how we relate foods to special people. Pecan pies were also made by my mother's mother, chicken & dumplings were made by my father's mother and my father-in-law didn't like casseroles!! Each time I am in the kitchen making one of these, I am reminded of them and how special each one was in my life. More gratful each day for those rememberances!

I appreciate leftover produce. My mom lets me throw it out to the rabbits, and I like to watch them eat it.

I am thankful that my husband loves to cook. In our earlier years of marriage I did all the cooking and I hate to cook! In recent years my husband took over the job and I'm a little rounder for it, but love that he not only enjoys the task, but is darn good at it!

I am grateful for the amazing array of foods that I am able to access. We live in a country where there is an abundance of wonderful fruit and vegetables as well as all that other 'stuff' we can buy in the grocery stores. I am grateful for the lessons I learn about food from many of my friends who are wonderful cooks and keen healthy eaters. I am also grateful for the wonderful invention of chocolate (dark of course) you cannot possibly talk about food without mentioning this wonderful stuff!

I am grateful to people who cook for me and then share their recipes. I like to remember the source of the recipe when I make it for myself. One of the best things I learned in college was how to make guacamole from my friend, Mary, and I still think of her when I make it.

Food can be a friend or an enemy. Well, maybe I am my own enemy when I don't eat carefully and regret some of my choices. It is not the food's fault... the food is fine and I am grateful to have it. I just have to be careful.

I'm grateful for the family recipes passed down from both sides of my family as well as for all the wonderful dishes my grand mother in law had taught me to keep her grandson well fed

I am glad that I appreciate the nutritional value of food and am able to enjoy a little less of it to lose some old poundage.

Will never forget Josh and Trevor describing my family's gatherings (as they had 4 sets of grandparents... Mine was "the one with all the food!"
Never went hungry at our gatherings for sure!

I'm so grateful my own kitchen cupboards are always filled with food. It's easy to take for granted, but it really is such a luxury to be able to eat anything I want, when I want. I'm grateful to all those before me who created wonderful recipes. I'm grateful to others who invented some of the foods I love the most. Most of all, I am so grateful to have someone to share a meal with.

I am grateful for the amazing cooks we have in our family. Food has always been an important part of our family gatherings and the only time I get a chance to eat Armenian food.

I'm so grateful that I CAN eat! This time last year, I was too sick to eat and got sick if I did. I also have had a lot of digestive issues my whole life (related to this sickness) and was even wired shut for 7 weeks for facial reconstructive surgery, so eating is NOT somnething I take for granted. I am especially thankful for the ability to eat and enjoy food this year.

I am grateful our children and grandchildren value family traditions, including our Thanksgiving meal - turkey and all the trimmings. I love that our granddaughters like to help make the pies and the dressing.

Food is a part of an Italian's life and lifestyle -so thinking of what I like the most is hard to do. The basic pizza is so important. Wine, cheese and bread so wonderful - with olives even better.
Memories rush back when I smell certain scents. Baked bread or toasting bread brings back memories of my grandmother cooking breakfast for her "boys"- she used to toast the bread in the oven and the smell was divine! This was accompanied by eggs and bacon and - hey what a way to start the day!

There is so much hunger in the world and right here in our own country. I just heard a story of families in Las Vegas who used to be middle class homeowners who are now living in cars and shelters. Their Thanksgiving meal this year will be provided by local chefs and the Las Vegas schools.

I am grateful for having the food I need to keep myself healthy and active. I am grateful that I an able to make regular contributions to our local food bank, both in monetary and food donations. I am grateful for all of the programs domestically and internationally that work to feed hungry people.

I am grateful for food in general, especially during the holidays when we try different recipes and more elaborate dishes. It reminds me that I am a good cook.

Food is the center of gathering families and friends together. Thanksgiving is not an ethnic holiday however, it is a purely American holiday. It bridges all barriers. So to bake the pumpkin and apple pies is such a treat. It just needs to look and taste beautiful. To fill the table with wonderful food warms the heart. This is a wonderful American holiday. I host this holiday, so I truly enjoy preparing the center of this feast and seeing what everyone else brings to make it all wonderful. It warms the soul. I am so thankful to have the family and friends with whom I can share this event.

I'm grateful for the many friends who've invited me to join them not only for Thankgiving dinner, but on various other occasions. Being single I often find myself not eating as healthy as I should.
One customer who is now a good friend insisted on cooking something for me for lunch every day I worked for her although she and her husband both would eat only raw foods. I'm also thankful for the many customers who have become good friends throughout the time I've spent working on their homes.

I am grateful for the fact that food brings people together, this year we formed a little foodie club and have created lasting friendships! I love that I'm always getting together with friends and family over food, even if it's just costco hot dogs, it's a great way to share a moment.
