Day_20_Kindness

The beauty of a random act of kindness is that it's unexpectedness makes appreciation that much easier. Have you experienced or performed a random act of kindness that lightened up your day? We'd love to hear it:

I'm grateful for fellow travelers on local streets and highways who show consideration and kindness to total and anonymous strangers.

When I am aware of life as it happens, I notice many small moments of kindness every day. Each one makes my day brighter and fill it with joy.

I received a knock at my door one Halloween and when I opened it there was a big basket of candy full of Halloween decorations and a flashing light inside. It was so fun and I still have no idea who it came from!

Random acts of kindness are like breathing for me. Each day has several. When I am present in the moment, I recognize the kindness given to, or received by, me. For each one, I am very grateful!

I am thankful to live in a town where anyone will help you out...
I had a flat tire, and at a gas station, had someone who I had just met, pull out my spare, take off the flat tire & put on the spare...
WOW.... what a great town!

I'm thankful for the help of two guests at our soup kitchen who helped sweep last night.

I am grateful that I was able to get a Christmas card to a local boy who's family was celebrating Christmas early, knowing that their son would probably not live long enough to see Christmas. His one simple request illuminated the random acts of kindness we are all capable of showing one another. Little Noah passed away yesterday (11/23) and his family is still receiving cards.

I am grateful for those random acts because it restores my faith in humanity and illustrates how we can all come together for a common purpose.

An older man with a cane and I met at the outer door of the bank yesterday. I loved the "pleasantly suprised" look on his face when I held the door open for him. And the "turn about is fair play" comment when he insisted on holding the other door open for me was great!

I have received and given many random kindnesses but my favorite giving one is the time I was given a very special kindness by a total stranger at a store..I ran out out of money and was debating what to put back and the man behind me handed the cashier a $10 bill and said he would pay the difference..I offered to pay back but he refused. It made a great difference and impact on me and I was very grateful for the blessing!

My husband is very kind. He surprises me by putting my car in the garage, getting me a salad I like or bringing the phone to me while I am at the computer. I am lucky to have him.

I am grateful for the person who began talking to me while I was in the grocery checkout line. I was so engrossed in my thoughts and all I had to do. She began talking to me and I immediately became less stressed.

Recently I was out of town for business and the taxi driver was kind and pointed out places of interest and possible restaurants in the area of my hotel. My stay in his city was more enjoyable for his thoughtfulness.

I recently moved away for school and my friend from home decided to plan a weekend away and a group of us girls met up halfway. She surprised me with a cup of boba tea from our favorite boba place at home and that just brightened my day and I'm grateful for her friendship and her thoughtfulness.

Thanks for the example of kindness witnessed today at CVS, people caring for each other in the busyness of a shopping day.

Since I have been focused on this 30 Days of gratitude project, I have noticed strangers smiling at me constantly. I know I am not imagining it. People open doors, say "have a nice evening", smile and are simply more friendly. I, too, am doing the same. Little random acts of kindness. Its contagious! What a wonderful observation, and yes I am so grateful for all of what I'm experiencing.

After another car crashed into mine last summer, causing me to hit the car in front of me, while we were all waiting for the tow truck a man came out of his house and gave each of us a bottled water. After the shock of the crash the water had a surprisingly great effect on reviving me and enabling me to answer all the police officer's questions and make the decisions that had to be made. It was so kind and thoughtful of that man.

I am always grateful when travelling when locals stop to recommend a restaurant or give directions. I try to pay that forward in NYC by asking people who look confused if they need directions or help on the subways, etc.

This semester at school I was the committee head for a committee dedicated to reaching out, helping, and performing random acts of kindness to other JMU organizations. This was such an amazing opportunity to develop good deeds, carry them out, inspire people with quotes, and always keeps others best interests in the forefront of my mind. I just hope I can continue doing all these wonderful things without a title next semester :)

I am very thankful to a wonderful man who paid for my kids' and my meal recently at a Shoney's. I pray that he is blessed 10X what he blessed me. Thank you God for the sweet people out there who hear your voice and do your will.

I take a local community choir whos participants are mainly retirees. Its basically a free choir with only a coin donation going towards the running of the community centre where we meet. I had just bought some backing tracks and folders etc for the choir and hadn't thought much about it until a week later I was presented with a thankyou card from the choir along with some money to go towards the cost of the music I had bought. I was surprised and touched by the jesture and it really made me realise how much everyone enjoyed and appreciated our little choir and my efforts on their behalf. I do what I do because I enjoy it but it was so nice to receive the card out of the blue with their heartfelt thanks.

I love sponsoring soldiers in Iraq. I love expressing my gratitude to these American heroes by become somewhat of a fairy godmother to them. They are always so appreciative, and I love finding clever ways to show I care. These people start as strangers to me, and then I end up with a new friend each time. I'm grateful that each of them has made it home safely so far.

Last week I got a surprise gift from one of the members of a women's group that I belong to with just a not that said I had been in her thoughts the past few months. It made my day!

It may sound silly, but as a Mom with three little boys, people who reach out and hold the door for me as I struggle to push a stroller through are the best! I am so thankful for each and every person who has helped me out in the last few years.

I am blessed to have a friend who randomly leaves beautiful "surprise" gifts on my door step without any reason, except for just to make me smile :) It is so lovely to know someone is thinking of you like that.

Opportunities to perform random acts of kindness are everywhere. . .every minute of every day. One just needs to be open and alert to them. I am so grateful that somewhere in my experience, or in my education, or in my genes, the impulse to be randomly kind was born in me, has always been there. It brings me so much pleasure to bring smiles to recipients faces, and to put good into the Universe on a regular basis. I recommend it highly.

I am grateful for all the little things that strangers do for me - hold doors open, pick up dropped items, smile, say hello, good morning, etc., say "God Bless You" when I sneeze, wish me a good day, etc., etc. It's all those little things that make me feel 'visible' and cause me to pay it forward.

I still remember the woman who (32 years ago in Madison, WI) gave me a ride to a job interview. She picked me up from a bus stop where I'd just realized I'd read the bus schedule wrong and would be late for my job interview. She must have noticed the distressed look on my face! I figured that God sent her because I got the job.
