I WISH YOU ENOUGH.
Recently, I overheard a mother and daughter in their last moments together at the airport as the daughter's departure had been announced. Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the mother said: "I love you and I wish you enough."

~ You are special and important. You have talents and attributes that are unique only to you. Take a minute to appreciate just how cool or funny or smart or kind (or all of these things) you are... The world needs you to notice and appreciate yourself.

|

~ Taking time to share in writing what a gesture, kindness or gift meant to you, is a present you can always give. Any form works - fb message, e-mail or better yet a hand-written note arriving in a thing called a mailbox! Here's hoping you take up this challenge...

~ Jimmy Fallon doesn't really get the core of the gratitude thing, but the ability to find humor is a good idea. What funny, light-hearted or even edgy part of your life are you grateful for?

~ No family is perfect, but with any luck they have your back. Whether by giving you a ride to the airport, a break from your kids, a job or something rare - like a kidney. Through birth or a special bond, even though imperfect, hopefully your family has your back when it counts. Feel free to appreciate that here...

~ We adapt to our level of comfort and abundance. Combatting this phenomenon requires remembering, being grateful and sometimes even experiencing life without. (In the case of plumbing the first two are a good start :-)

Gratitude Over Greed Pledge |
|

Because there are more important things in life than this. Take a stand against the trend of major retailers opening on Thanksgiving Day. Pledge to not shop on Thanksgiving Day! (And invite your friends and family to join you!)
Giving thanks for what you have is the complete opposite of buying stuff! We barely take time to pause as it is. Now retailers, desperate to feed and encourage commercialism over connection are upping the stakes by dangling their discounts in our faces hoping we won't notice the hidden cost - the loss of reverence for people over things, for gratitude over greed.
If you want to send a message that you will not sacrifice Thanksgiving time for their promotions let them know. Contact Target, Toys R Us, Sears, Kmart, Walmart and any other retailers that have started this practice and let them know your thoughts. And please consider not shopping at these stores not just on Thanksgiving but for this holiday season.

|

~ Of course we should give thanks every day. But holding this day in high regard - with traditions and connection and expressing our gratitude OUT LOUD is very powerful. Here's to you finding the words and speaking them...

~ If you are lucky, she's was/is a worrier. If you're lucky she pestered and pushed you, stood up for you and occasionally sent you to your room to learn a lesson. Good moms love ya even when you aren't doing easily lovable things! And it doesn't have to be Mother's Day to let her know you appreciated it. (btw if you weren't lucky - there are always moms out there wanting a job. All you have to do is hire them!)

After hemming and hawing about whether to offer the 30 Days of Gratitude Project this November 2012, here is this year's experiment with a fairly loose theme or prompt and a place to post and share your gratitudes (we will try this without the need for login). For those of you from previous years, I will try to get out a summary e-mail weekly (instead of a daily reminder). You are also welcome to join on the 30 Days of Gratitude facebook page.
